Introduction

What is AOE?

ATA over Ethernet (AOE) is a network protocol developed by the Brantley Coile Company, designed for accessing ATA storage devices over Ethernet networks. It gives the possibility to build SANs (Storage Area Networks) with low-cost, standard technologies.
AOE does not rely on network layers above Ethernet, such as IP, UDP, TCP, etc. This means that AOE is not routable over LANs and is intended for SANs only.
AOE (ATA-Over-Ethernet) is a technology which enables all digital storage devices (HDD, Memory, Tape Drives) to connect into a standard Ethernet network and all users or systems in the network may directly control, use and share those devices.

Gigabit AOE (ATA-Over-Ethernet)

AOE-G2A11 uses AOE (ATA-Over-Ethernet) technology to support data to/from the SATA devices through
1Gbps Ethernet links. It takes full advantage of high-speed Gigabit Ethernet Bus allowing for multi-user and
multitasking performance.
The Gigabit AOE bridge controller can demonstrate a network disk read/write bandwidth close to the local
Direct-Attached-Storage access speed.
The Gigabit AOE bridge controller along with the host system driver software provides a versatile, scalable,
sharable, and expandable network directly solution attached to storage.

Drivers

  • Drivers (1.2.7.1122) for Microsoft Windows 2000, XP, 2003 Server and Vista
  • Drivers (V080222) for Linux Kernel 2.6
Gigabit AOE (ATA-Over-Ethernet) Benefits

Easiest setup

AOE technology is so simple and easy to use. Anyone who can use a PC can  achieve the highest performance without  any knowledge of network, folder sharing, TCP/IP configuration, or DHCP settings.

  • Plug and play
    1. Just plug the AOE storage into a network switch (LAN ports) and turn on
      the switch.
    2. Install driver software - just put in the installation driver CD into your computer, Driver installation is
      automatic
    3. Add Access Key and R/W Key for your privacy and security of data and enjoy all the
performance and features of AOE technology

  • No settings or configuration required
    • No need to setup IP address, or DHCP setting
  • Just use
    • From your computer it is just the same as the storage inside your computer
    • Use just as you used PC before. No further explanation needed!

Highest performance

It is directly attached and controlled. Therefore it operates at the same speed as your storage installed inside your computer. It is the fastest network storage in the world.

  • Why is AOE fast?

  • AOE storage is connected in the network but the structure and data path are the same as computer's internal storage.
  • Other network storage is complex and has long and many different data process paths
  • Therefore it is the fastest network storage in the world.

Security

  • Access blocking
AOE has its Access Key and R/W Key implanted into its hardware. By securing your AOE ID, no one can even see or access the AOE storage even though they are connected in the same network.
  • Access Key : controls access to the AOE storage
  • Without knowing the Access Key, the PC can not access nor recognize the existence of the AOE storage in the network
  • Write blocking
Sometimes read-only access is required for other users in the network while you are securing the raw data in the storage. Secure the R/W Key and release the Access Key to other users. All other users can read the data but cannot write, change, alter, or damage the raw data.
  • R/W Key : controls write authority into the AOE storage
  • Without knowing the R/W Key , an user cannot change, alter, erase, or damage the original data
  • Hacking blocking
AOE storage is safe from hacking from the Internet. Even if your network is also connected to the Internet by DSL it is impossible for a hacker to get into the AOE storage and steal or damage your data.
  • AOE is not using TCP/IP
  • Therefore even if the network is connected to the Internet, it is safe from hacking.

AOE Applications

Save and Share

  • Connect AOE-G2A11 to your local network (LAN ports)
  • Wired or wireless
  • Up to gigabit speed
  • Save all your data into centralized AOE-G2A11 and share it from any PC, Laptop, PDA or other AOE compatible multimedia system

Secured data sharing

  • With AOE's ID/KEY security, and with its unique network protocol, various structures of secured data sharing are possible
  • Even if the network is connected with an outside Internet connection, the data in AOE-G2A11 is safe from
hackers from stealing, damaging or destroying data in AOE-G2A11
  • You can select users and allow them to write, change or alter the raw data while allowing other users only to view or read the data without writing, changing, altering or damaging the original data.

-ID : controls access to the AOE storage
- Without knowing the ID, the PC cannot access nor recognize the existence of the AOE storage in the network

- Key : controls write authority into the AOE storage
- Without knowing the Key, the user can not change, alter, erase, or damage the original data

DVD/CD Juke

AOE-G2A11 can be used as CD/DVD Juke box. You don't need to sends thousand of $$ to get CD/DVD juke system. Get an AOE CD/DVD juke feature license and then you can use your AOE-G2A11 as CD/DVD juke. Of course, it supports all the AOE features and performance.

Multi-Media Library

  • In this digital life, multimedia data sources are everywhere: digital camera, digital camcorder, mp3, Internet download, TV capture, or email attachment from friends.
  • Save all the multi-media data once in AOE-G2A11 and only in AOE-G2A11, and share from your PC, Laptop, TV, or audio.
  • You don't need to have the same photo, music, and video copied here and there, or send/receive back and forth anywhere.

DVR, Surveillance system

With AOE technology, a DVR or surveillance camera system can be structured at a lower cost, with more flexibility, while enhancing the performance or video quality.

By using AOE technology, a simple camera with AOE-G2A11 can replace a complex DVR server, being a higher performance system at less than 50% of the cost.
