Introduction

FWBEIDE525-1 is a FireWire 800 (1394b) to IDE (ATA/ATAPI) 5.25" enclosure.
FWBEIDE525-1 is ideally suited for tailgate interface applications for removable-media drives CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-ROM, DVD-RAM, tape drive, and hard disk drive.

FWBEIDE525-1 provides the perfect solution for data backup and transfering of data between computers using IDE (ATA/ATAPI) devices.
It allows IDE drives (Master or Slave) to be connected to FireWire 800 (1394b) serial bus in a plug-and-play fashion. FWBEIDE525-1 allows users to easily hot-swap IDE drive without interrupting the current operation.

FWBEIDE525-1 combines two key components.

  • Both ATA and ATAPI devices are supported using the same firmware
  • Number of ports: External X 3 (Two Biligual-9pin and One FireWire-6pin)
  • 1394b PHY: Ti TSB81BA3
  • 1394 Bus Transfer Rate: 100/200/400/800 Mbps
  • Complies with T13's ATA/ATAPI-7 Draft Specification:
    • PIO Mode 0-4
    • DMA Mode 0-2
    • Ultra DMA Mode 2, 4, 5, 6
  • Supports 48-bit LBA for large hard drives (>128GB).

  • Provide one 5.25" device bay
  • The inner metal mounting bracket provide the screw hole for 3.5" and 5.25" IDE devices.
  • Built-in 50W power supply/Universal auto-switching 90-240V AC
  • Built-in 40x40 mm cooling fan
  • Provide one RCA Jack
  • Outer Plastic Shell with colorful foot pad
  • Power Switch on the front panel.
  • Power indicator LED and HDD Access LED
Hardware Requirements
  • Desktop PC: with either a built-in FireWire (1394b or 1394a) controller or a FireWire (1394b or 1394a) to PCI Host Adapter equipped with a external FireWire (1394b or 1394a) port.
  • Laptop PC: with either a built-in FireWire (1394b or 1394a) controller or a FireWire (1394b or 1394a) to CardBus PC Card equipped with a external FireWire (1394b or 1394a) port.
